International Women’s Day Celebration – 8 March 2026
The Centre for Women & Development (CWD) celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March at the Jaffna Public Library Auditorium. The event brought together inspiring women from different sectors to share their experiences, knowledge, and perspectives with the community.
The program began with a Welcome Address by Ms. Saroja Sivachandran, Executive Director of the Centre for Women & Development.
The event featured a special address by the Chief Guest, Dr. Nimalka Fernando, Director of the Women’s Political Academy. The gathering was further enriched by insightful presentations from distinguished speakers including Dr. Logeswary Sooriyakumaran, Lecturer in Business and Management Studies at Eastern University, Batticaloa; Dr. Jeyaluxmy Uthayakumar, Former Lecturer at the College of Education, Kopay; Dr. Bhageerathy Rasanen, Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Jaffna; and Dr. T. Kanagaraj, Regional Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission, Jaffna.
The program created an important platform for discussion on women’s empowerment, leadership, and the role of women in community development.
